Karmaloop TV x Chester French

Karmaloop TV recently revamped its already vast online presence with a re-introduction of its platform that includes a redesign and a range of content upgrades. Bringing on board the likes of respected director Shomi Patwary, the new Karmaloop TV will dig into the “verge” culture to expand on topics such as fashion, music, politics, lifestyle and art. Things will kick off with a range of personalities that include Frank the Butcher, Terry Kennedy, Pharrell Williams and Karmaloop TV’s own, Greg Selkoe.

Aligning with the progressiveness of the new Karmaloop TV, the honest new single from Chester French meets a stunning video by acclaimed fashion photographer Francesco Carrozzini. The video stars the multi-talented Rie Rasmussen and Jodie Smith, who bring life to the band’s unabashed, hard-hitting celebration of feminine beauty and interracial love. Steamy and direct in its approach, “Black Girls” is an overly sexual video experience that may be NSFW, but is certainly good for the soul. “Black Girls” is the band’s first single since their 2009 album Love the Future. The updated KTV is now live with a plethora of new content to scour — in the meantime, enjoy the latest from Chester French.

Pass the Dutchie.

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Even though a “Dutchie” is a Jamaican cooking pot, and while there’s not much reason to pass one around, it was an acceptable substitute for the original lyric: “Pass The Kutchie,” Kutchie being Jamaican slang for a pot that holds marijuana. So on that note, here’s the Musical Youth video. Enjoy!

Yves Rossy “Jetman” Test Flights in Swiss Airspace.

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Not bound by the cabin walls of an aircraft, Swiss “Jetman” Yves Rossy displays his latest test flight over his native turf. What started as an experimental project, Jetman has now become the only human being to actualize flight with a jet-propelled wing. With countless hours invested in body control training and 10 years of prototype development, Jetman shows off some jaw-dropping maneuvers while sustaining flight for over 10 minutes at a time. This is insane.

Marc Jacobs & Hugh Hefner Birthday Video.

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Toronto filmmaker Claire Edmondson shares her April 9 birthday with both Marc Jacobs and Hugh Hefner. To celebrate the trio’s birthdays this year, she pointed her camera at a few sexy ladies rolling around in Jacobs’ and Hefner’s two favorite things: Louis Vuitton and um… partial nudity? Well, at least the three can agree on a genuine appreciation for the female form.

In an unprecedented performance, a lifelike hologram of the late Tupac Shakur hit Coachella’s main stage last night during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s headlining set, performing classics “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” Envisioned by Dr. Dre and executed by AV Concepts and curator Nick Smith, the four-minute holographic performance by the late hip-hop icon cost quite a bit to execute. Speaking to MTV about the project, Smith shared some insight into the realization of Dr. Dre’s idea:

“We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life,” said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that created the hologram. “It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life. You can take their likenesses and voice and … take people that haven’t done concerts before or perform music they haven’t sung and digitally recreate it.

The Tupac hologram was several months in the planning and took nearly four months to create in a studio and though Smith was not able to reveal the exact price tag for the illusion, he said a comparable one could cost anywhere from $100,000 to more than $400,000 to pull off. “I can’t say how much that event cost, but I can say it’s affordable in the sense that if we had to bring entertainers around world and create concerts across the country, we could put [artists] in every venue in the country.”
