In an unprecedented performance, a lifelike hologram of the late Tupac Shakur hit Coachella’s main stage last night during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s headlining set, performing classics “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.” Envisioned by Dr. Dre and executed by AV Concepts and curator Nick Smith, the four-minute holographic performance by the late hip-hop icon cost quite a bit to execute. Speaking to MTV about the project, Smith shared some insight into the realization of Dr. Dre’s idea:

“We worked with Dr. Dre on this and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life,” said Nick Smith, president of AV Concepts, the San Diego company that created the hologram. “It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life. You can take their likenesses and voice and … take people that haven’t done concerts before or perform music they haven’t sung and digitally recreate it.

The Tupac hologram was several months in the planning and took nearly four months to create in a studio and though Smith was not able to reveal the exact price tag for the illusion, he said a comparable one could cost anywhere from $100,000 to more than $400,000 to pull off. “I can’t say how much that event cost, but I can say it’s affordable in the sense that if we had to bring entertainers around world and create concerts across the country, we could put [artists] in every venue in the country.”

A New Contributor:

April 9th, 2012

We are so stoked to introduce the one and only Le Panda as our newest kickass blog contributor. Fyasko is on fire with a team of amazing talents – Crazy Dave, Benjamin Classen, Mash Hatae & now Le Panda. For those of you who are not familiar with the hip Los Angeles party scene, here’s a little brief on the outgoing photographer who also goes by Clayton Woodley.

With a childhood spent in Australia and a midwest upbringing, it makes sense that Clayton is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth and lovable photographers on the LA beat. He doesn’t just stay behind the camera, he engages his audience to catch some of the most animated and unbelievable photos – they aren’t just party photos, they really capture the moment and make you feel like you are standing right there. This must be due to his natural disposition with the camera, since he picked his first one up at the age of 10.

Starting out shooting events in the action sports industry, the invitations to snap the behind-the-scenes debauchery at the after parties came easy. Having built up his reputation, he soon graduated to becoming THE photographer for the countries’ largest festivals including OC Pacific Festival, SXSW, Winter Music Conference and of course, Coachella. His portfolio not only includes photos of some of the most incredible celebrities, he also has a collection of exquisitely shot images that embrace the rawness of what goes on everyday in the streets of LA.

Having spent his adult years in SoCal, he enjoys an active lifestyle of snowboarding and the amazing beach life California has to offer. He is also known for being quite an excellent chef and occasionally documents his gourmet accomplishments on his facebook page. Coined “Le Panda” in 2008, Clayton has captured thousands of priceless moments through his numerous friendships in the music, nightlife, and action sports scenes.

To check out his work, peep his website www.lepanda.com or like his fanpage at www.facebook.com/claytonlepanda.

We are incredibly lucky to have Le Panda as part of the team – Welcome to the Fyasko family bud!
