1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Alloy
Recently put on the block by Gooding & Company, the ultra-rare 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Alloy recently fetched $4.62 million dollars at auction, making it the most expensive purchase of its kind. With only 29 versions ever built with an aluminum body, auto insiders assumed that it would go for at least a cool $2 million, but it seems one auto enthusiast was willing to go the extra mile to add this baby to his collection. As one of the most iconic motorcars of all time, it can easily be said that the Alloy Gullwing is the most significant road-going Mercedes-Benz of the post-war era.
Once the metal birds that soared the sky, decommissioned planes have now been largely relegated to the junkyard. However an initiative that began in 2010 by Eric Firestone and Carlo McCormick is taking shape with another exhibition to beautify these massive canvases. The Boneyard Project “Return Trip” has invited Andrew Schoultz, How & Nosm, Nunca, Retna and Faile to each paint their own planes. This honor will sit alongside last year’s work including Aiko, Bast, Crash, Daze, El Mac, Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Futura, Erik Foss, Tara Mcpherson, Richard Prince, Lee Quinones and Kenny Scharf among others.
Now showing at:

The first video in the Montana Colors Big Addict series comes in the form of this time-lapse offering dubbed, “Endless Obsession.” Directed by Benjamin Roude and with music by Dick Laurent is Dead, the one-part hypnotic, and equal parts obsessive video exploration into the art of the throwup is achieved masterfully. Utilizing only blacks and whites, TILT showcases that a good graffiti artist’s work is never done.
This past weekend I.T.S. Music Playground hosted Good Listener’s album release party at 1980 Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA. I was invited by my good friend Steven Kerns (who’s birthday was also being celebrated) to come by to do some live painting for the show. Beat dropping live performances went down by DJ’s TerribleFolly, Cloud Life, Yes Mistress, GKEN-E, Alphabets, ThirdRock, Smurko, Myrcene and Good Listener. Installation art was set up all around with sweet neon flowers and black lights by Burning Man artist Dana Troy. Overall great night of art and music… always a good time with the ITS family, here are a few flicks from the night.
We just got news from Crazy Dave that Squishy was busted this morning for a DUI. Guess Friday the 13th is bad luck for everybody.
