The Parlour Room

Boudoir

Boudoir

Consider Fyasko your LA nightlife tour guide:

First stop, Las Palmas.

Tipsy socialites and ribald beauties you recognize either from Facebook or TV (or both). This is Spanish-style, Hollywood-style. Fyasko is introducing you to the reborn Las Palmas.

If you need Fyasko to give you a moment to brush up on your Spanish history (you last danced here when it was LAX, and before that it was a legendary nightspot called… Las Palmas), step out to your lace-covered booth in the enclosed side patio for some Mexican grub and another round. The music’s a little softer here, and the conversation’s more intimate. And when it’s all over, order some Short-Rib Tacos from the taco-shop window out front. (That’ll be open for lunch too, if you’re in the neighborhood.)
Las Palmas: 1714 N Las Palmas Ave (north of Hollywood Blvd) Los Angeles, CA 90028

Second stop, The Parlour Room

Sometimes you just want a neighborhood drinking hole that you know will be around next month. Good beer. Good jukebox. That kind of thing. Welcome to The Parlour Room of Hollywood!

You’ll recognize the bones of Madame Royale here (and Play before that, and Red Buddha Lounge, and…), but the tufted green leather seats, marble bar and vintage gold mirrors are all new and give it a swanky-basement-hideaway vibe.

It’s where you’ll go to catch up with old friends over some Old Speckled Hen beers and a raucous soundtrack of classic Guns N’ Roses. Or maybe you’ll take a low-key date when you’re both in the mood to down one too many Maple Juleps (bourbon, mint, maple syrup) by the fireplace on the enclosed brick patio out back.

And if something about all this feels familiar—well, that’s because this is now a Craig Trager spot, the man behind institutions like The Well, The Woods and The Fifth. That means there will always be a $5 martini on the menu, and there’s no annoying dress code.
The Parlour Room of Hollywood: 6423 Yucca St (west of Cahuenga) Los Angeles, CA 90028

Third stop, Boudoir

Ladies and gentlemen, Fyasko invites you to drink with TV stars in a Parisian bedroom!

Welcome to the new Parisian-themed lounge known as Boudoir, officially open for elegant debauchery on La Cienega.

You’ll find it in the former home of Coco de Ville—the owners are the same, and the velvet rope is still out front. But instead of the old eye-popping rainbow of furniture and swings inside, you’ll now step into a golden fireplace-warmed enclave overstuffed with armchairs, crystal chandeliers and dessert-flavored cocktails.
Boudoir: 755 N La Cienega Blvd (south of Santa Monica) West Hollywood, CA 90069

State of the Spill – HELP / FYASKO SUPPORTS SURFRIDERS MOVEMENT

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Having trouble wrapping your head around 25,000 barrels of oil? Equal to 1,050,000 million gallons. The amount we have been using to estimate the amount of oil gushing into the gulf everyday for the last 62 days! This is a startling and helpful visualization, go here http://oilonthebeach.blogspot.com/

Surfrider’s estimate of the spill volume is based on a rate of 26,000 barrels per day. The most recent estimate of the continuing rate of the oil gusher is between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels per day (1,470,000 to 2,520,000 gallons per day). If the release has been at that rate since Day 1, the total volume of oil released is now between and 84 and 144 million gallons.

In addition to the thousands out of jobs here is the most recent known tally of affected wildlife: 679 dead birds, 296 dead sea turtles and 37 dead mammals.

For more information and ways you can help please visit http://oilonthebeach.blogspot.com/

Fyasko is committed to helping.

Dump the digital camera and dig out that dusty Polaroid

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The Impossible Project, the company created by former Polaroid employees to save the last production plant for instant film in 2008, plans to release its first new generation of integral film this summer. It includes a new monochromatic film, designed to work with the Polaroid SX-70 and 600 cameras, available at the company’s recently opened store at 425 Broadway in New York, which comes after shops in Vienna and Berlin.

The developments could generate a comeback of analog pictures this summer. The Impossible Project recently launched a version of the classic Polaroid 600 camera designed by Paul Giambarba, the architect of Polaroid’s corporate image in 1958. Sold in a limited edition kit with a pack of matching film, it instantly sold out.

Fyasko likes the idea of getting back to photography’s casual roots and is excited to see the Artistic movement bringing back the Polaroid may create.
